Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant

Overview

The TEACH Grant program provides grants to students who plan to become teachers. Recipients must sign an Agreement to Serve, promising to teach full-time in a high-need field for four complete academic years within eight years of completing their academic program. This service must be at an elementary school, secondary school, or educational service agency that serves children from low-income families. If the service requirement is not met, the grant converts into a Direct Unsubsidized Loan that must be repaid with interest accrued from the date the grant was first disbursed. It was established by the U.S. Department of Education to encourage students to enter the teaching profession in high-need fields and low-income areas.
