Overview

The American Legion Joseph B. Westnedge Post 36 Scholarship is a needs-based scholarship for military students who are American Legion-eligible. The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran’s organization and has since become one of the most influential nonprofit groups in the country, contributing to the modern VA, the GI Bill, and the construction of the Vietnam and World War II Memorials. The Joseph B. Westnedge Post 36 in Kalamazoo includes veterans from many wars and established this scholarship to support local veterans and give back to the community, continuing their tradition of duty to the four pillars of Veterans Affairs, National Security, Americanism, and Children and Youth.
