Jacquelyn Barrone Art Achievement Award Fund

Overview

Jacquelyn (Jacque) Barrone began her teaching career as the art teacher for Athens Area Schools. She believed that creative expression had to be built on fundamentals of drawing, design, and art history. Believing that art courses were integral to the larger goal of helping students develop critical thinking skills, Jacque emphasized writing as part of the high school level program. She instilled the belief that art courses include academic accomplishment. Jacque took immense satisfaction in seeing students who may not have been confident in their “creative” ability grow and flourish. Feeling that student artwork received too little recognition, Jacque organized student art exhibits to showcase these successes. Jacque’s family and friends knew how important teaching had become to Jacque and how proud she was to have the opportunity to help rebuild that part of the Athens curriculum.
