Personal Education Savings Account

Overview

The Personal Education Savings Account (PESA) in North Carolina, now combined into the Education Student Accounts (ESA+) program, provides funding to families of students with disabilities to pay for tuition and other educational expenses. It was established to support students with special needs by providing flexible financial resources that follow the student. The program was created to ensure that children with disabilities have access to a customized learning environment that can include private schools, home education, and specialized therapeutic services.
