Overview
The Wade McCree Incentive Scholarship Program was established in honor of Wade H. McCree (1920-1987), a distinguished jurist who served as the first African American judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit and the second African American solicitor general in U.S. history. Known as a 'true American hero' by President Jimmy Carter, McCree argued 25 cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and later became a law professor at the University of Michigan. The scholarship program serves as an incentive for students in specific school districts to maintain academic excellence and prepare for higher education at Oakland University.
