Overview
The LSA Bentley Scholarship is one of the most competitive and prestigious scholarships awarded to in-state students at the University of Michigan's College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. It was established by the Alvin M. and Arvella D. Bentley Foundation to support students with demonstrated exceptional scholastic and civic achievement. Alvin M. Bentley III, a 1940 U-M graduate, spent his life in public service supporting civil rights and higher education, serving in the United States diplomatic corps and as an 8th District Representative before becoming a U-M Regent. His wife, Arvella 'Billie' Bentley, was a trustee for Nazareth College and the Hawaii Preparatory Academy and a supporter of the Bentley Historical Library, which was completed in 1972 through a gift from the Bentley family.
