Overview
The Teacher Recognition Award, also known as the Teacher of the Year Awards, was established by the American Legion, Department of Michigan to honor K-12 teachers for their competence and commitment to their students and communities. The program was created to recognize educators who demonstrate excellence in teaching and actively promote patriotism, Americanism, and community service programs within their schools. Winning teachers receive a grant to fund an education project of their choice and are presented with a Recognition Plaque by the State Commander.
